Agenda/Homework 8/8-8/9(2024)

Welcome back to another great school year!

Dear Students,

This year, like many others, is certain to bring with it many new and exciting experiences. The emphasis in our class this year will be to continue building on content knowledge with a greater focus on informational texts & primary sources. I will endeavor to help you hone and augment your academic vocabulary and build on grammar fundamentals. Our enriched Language Arts and History course aligns with CCSS and includes additional readings with increased complexity. This is designed to excite & challenge you to imbibe all that our textbook adoption (Study Sync) has to offer. Students also know that debates, role-playing, thought experiments, & games (time permitting) will be a regular part of your classes. I look forward to teaching all of you!

Elements of Folklore

Focus: Revisiting & Reviewing Foundational Concepts in Reading & Writing

We will be revisiting learned literary devices in an attempt to understand how writers use them to express their ideas and enhance their writing. Literary devices highlight important concepts in a text, strengthen the narrative, and help readers connect to the characters and themes. Let’s begin….

* Project Presented & Explained 8/9.

-Students, please bring in a folktale from your culture to class on 8/12. Please know that you do not necessarily, need a hardbound book; a printed version will suffice.)

History

* Getting to Know Your Textbook Questionnaire 8/8 (Classwork)

* “The Five Themes of Geography” - This is an in-class project. Herein, we will begin by reviewing the organizer for time periods - G.R.A.P.E.S. We will then commence a discussion on “The Five Themes of Geography”. Please do collaborate with your assigned group. Your participation and behavior will impact your grade. Good luck!

Project Assigned & Explained 8/8

* Classwork 8/9-8/12

* Due 8/13.

* In-Class Review 8/12

* Quiz 8/13
